Get control of your money. Don’t let it control you!

Money can be a powerful tool. It can be used for incredible good when managed well. But when your money (or lack of money) controls you, life can feel overwhelming. The adage that money can’t buy happiness is true, but lack of money can certainly steal your joy and lead you to a life filled with stress.

Alpharetta Methodist’s Financial Coaching Ministry is designed to help people get control of their money so money is a blessing.

Coaching is about gaining a perspective on your current situation and developing a custom plan to help you win with money. Whether you’re burdened by debt, need help with creating a budget, or just want to get on the same page with your spouse, a trained and caring coach will walk with you as you make real progress with your finances.

This is a confidential ministry led by René Watson, Certified Master Financial Coach and Alpharetta Methodist Executive Pastor. Using the principals of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace, we’ll start with a consultation to get an idea of your goals and then walk, step by step, with you to develop a plan that works uniquely for you.

Alpharetta Methodist is investing in YOU by paying for your Ramsey Plus Membership, which provides class materials, the upgraded version of the Everydollar app, and a ton of other teaching materials. There has never been a better time to say YES to your future. Sign up here!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a financial coach?

A financial coach helps you create goals and stick with them, so you’re not just dreaming about financial peace — you’re achieving it! A financial coach works with you to create your plan and walks with you as you work the plan. Your coach is there to give you hope and clarity.

A coach’s job is to meet you where you are and provide options from a neutral point of view. You’ll meet for as many sessions as needed to guide you through putting your desired plan in place. Your financial coach will sit with you, encourage you, guide and coach you, and help you overcome the challenges that hold you back in your finances.

How much does it cost?

Normally $200 per session, our coaches are giving their time as a ministry, so the cost to you is nothing. We ask that you invest in the process by showing up for appointments, complete requested paperwork, and when able, make a donation to the ministry to help others.

When should I work with a financial coach?

That’s the great thing about a financial coach — they can help you in any situation! Maybe you’re up to your eyeballs in student loans or credit card debt, or you’re having money fights with your spouse. Or maybe you have big money goals — like saving to buy a house or setting yourself up for retirement — but no plan to achieve them. Regardless, a coach can meet you where you are and help you get where you want to be.

What is the difference between Financial Peace University and financial coaching?

Financial Peace University (FPU) is a nine-week class that teaches the nuts and bolts of Dave Ramsey’s principles. Though financial coaching and FPU are different, they actually go hand-in-hand. In fact, our coaches will encourage you to take FPU before or during your sessions with them. Think of it this way: FPU lays the foundation that your coach uses to build a plan for your money.

How do I get my spouse on board?

Marriage is not “me” — it’s “we.” Working on your finances together is the only way to succeed when it comes to money. Many couples find that talking about money actually reduces stress in their marriage.

If you’re having difficulty getting your spouse on board, let your coach know.

How do I prepare for my coaching session?

The great part about working with a financial coach is we’ll guide you through every step of the process. Before your first session, your coach will ask you to provide some basic information and during your first consultation will ask questions to get to know you — your goals, your dreams, your past, your pain points, etc.
