What’s Changing?

For many years, Confirmation has been offered at a set time (usually in 8th grade). Starting this year, we’re shifting to a discernment-based Confirmation process.

Instead of every student going through Confirmation at the same age, students and families will now prayerfully discern the right time to step into this important milestone.

This change allows Confirmation to be:

  • More personal – Students affirm their faith when they are truly ready.
  • More Spirit-led – The Holy Spirit works in different ways and at different times in each life.
  • More meaningful – Students make commitments they can truly own.
How it Works
  1. Explore – Students and parents begin with conversations at home, guided by our Discernment & Readiness Tool.
  2. Discern – Together with mentors and pastors, families decide if now is the right time to begin.
  3. Prepare – Students who are ready enter the Confirmation journey: learning, asking questions, and growing in faith.
  4. Affirm – When the time is right, students publicly affirm their faith and baptism before the church.

Frequently Asked Questions (Q & A)

Q: What if my child isn’t ready right now?

A: That’s completely okay! Readiness looks different for everyone. Some students may be ready earlier, others later. The important thing is that Confirmation happens when the student can own their faith.

Q: Does my student have to be a certain age?

A: There’s no strict grade requirement. Most students begin considering Confirmation in middle or high school, but readiness matters more than age.

Q: Can my child go through the preparation process and then decide not to be confirmed?

A: Yes. Students may discern during the process that they’re not ready to affirm their faith yet. That honesty is part of the journey.

Q: What’s my role as a parent?

A: Parents are the primary faith influencers. We’ll equip you with tools to pray, talk, and walk with your student during this process.
